The 16th ‘Sri Mahalakshmi Yagam’ came to a grand close at Krishna Teja Educational Campus here on Friday with the mandatory ‘poornahuti’ ritual.

The mammoth event organised by Sri Ramachandra Ramanuja Jeeyar was attended on the final day by several seers and pontiffs heading various Mutts. Kumkum, Tulasi and jasmine petals were offered in the sacrifice during the 14-day event.

Milky ocean

The major attraction of the event was unveiled on the final day, when the mythological birth of Goddess Lakshmi during the churning of the milky ocean was enacted before the devout by pouring 5,000 litres of milk in a makeshift pool. A number of devotees came from across the State, especially the coastal districts where the seer has a large base, to witness the ritual. In the evening, Kalyanotsavam was performed to the celestial couple ‘Maha Lakshmi and Govinda Perumal’ by using 1,008 kg of pearls as ‘Talambralu’, that brought curtains on the colourful event.
