Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and working president M. Bhatti Vikramarka have accused the TRS government of foisting false cases on its political opponents and those questioning its decisions.

Addressing a press conference along with party leaders – Mohd. Ali Shabbir, Madhu Yashki Goud, T. Balram Naik and S. Rajaiah – here on Friday, they alleged that the government was conspiring to oppress the sections which had agitated for statehood to Telangana.

The government’s attitude was to make its adversaries kowtow it or else coerce them with false cases, they said.

Mr. Vikramarka pointed out that non-bailable cases were booked against several farmers in Bommanakallu mandal of his Madhira constituency for asking release of water to Nagarjunasagar left canal for saving the standing crop and sought to know whether seeking water was crime. A TPCC committee would soon visit Madhira to take stock of the situation, he noted.

Criticising the government for registering a false case against 17 leaders including Telangana United Front leader Vimalakka, Amar, Rajanna and others, who played an active role in Telangana movement, in the name of possessing arms illegally, Mr. Shabbir Ali said they were actually participating in a meeting at Machareddy on March 23 to protest the injustices done to beedi workers.

All democratic forces would come together and fight against the tyranny of the TRS Government, he stated.

The TPCC leaders demanded that the government withdraw cases registered against political activists, farmers and students since Telangana formation.

Meanwhile, Congress activists burnt an effigy of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at Nampally protesting the desecration of a statue of party leader and former Speaker D. Sripada Rao in Karimnagar district.
