Tamil Maanila Congress leader G.K. Vasan condemned the Sri Lankan’s Government’s rejection of Indian fishermen’s demand for fishing rights in the Sri Lankan waters for a specific period annually.
Speaking on the sidelines of a private function here, Mr. Vasan, referring to the failed third round of talks between the two countries, where the Tamil fishermen’s demand for fishing rights for 83 days across the Palk bay was rejected, said the Sri Lankan President Maitripala Sirisena’s rejection of the demand was condemnable. He called for the intervention of the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister in this regard.
The Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015, will not fetch the support of all parties unless it reflected, in toto, the interests of the farmers, Mr. Vasan said.
Sadanand Gowda’s comment that the political parties in Tamil Nadu were seeking political mileage by opposing the Mekedatu project, was highly condemnable. The Prime Minister should condemn the Minister for his statement, Mr. Vasan said. Mr. Vasan also condemned Giriraj Singh’s remarks against the Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
Commenting on the Tamil Nadu budget, the TMC leader dubbed it a “growth less” budget, even if it were a “tax-free” one.
On the tariff hike in certain toll gates along the National Highway, the TMC leader said the tariff hike was bound to affect the prices of commodities. He urged the Central government to reverse the tariff hike.
