The Attur Police has registered cases against six municipal councillors belonging to the AIADMK and DMK in connection with the violent incidents during the municipal meeting held on Tuesday.

Taking exception to the remarks against the AIADMK leadership made by J. Stalin (DMK) over the issue of non-allotment of special funds for Attur Municipality, which is celebrating golden jubilee this year, the AIADMK councillors clashed with DMK members.

Total commotion prevailed and Stalin and D. T. Ilaiyaraja (AIADMK) claimed that they were assaulted by rival party members at the meeting hall.

When Mr. Stalin was returning home, a couple of unidentified men assaulted him and fled the scene.

Stalin got himself admitted at the Government Hospital here.

Mr. Ialiyaraja and Mr. Stalin preferred separate complaints at the Attur Police Station.

On the complaint preferred by Ilaiyaraja, the police registered cases against three DMK councillors Stalin, Sarat Ravi and Velumani.

On Mr. Stalin’s complaint, cases were registered against Ilaiyaraja, Ramalingam and Gunasekaran, all AIADMK members.

Meanwhile, former DMK Rajya Sabha member T. M. Selvaganapathi visited Mr. Stalin at the Attur Government Hospital on Wednesday.

Later speaking to presspersons, he demanded action against the AIADMK councillors who assaulted Mr. Stalin.
