PANAJI: Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wenesday launched four new traffic cells at Bicholim, Anjuna, Pernem and Quepem. Parsekar also launched 30 motorcycles for the North Goa traffic cell to bring about discipline in traffic in the state.
There are 10 traffic cells already existing in the state and with the current four, the number has gone up to 14.
Speaking at the launch at the police headquarters, Panaji, Parsekar said that the motorcycles are launched to bring about traffic discipline in the state.
He also said that 30 more motorcycles would be launched in South Goa.
The traffic cell motorcycles will have a sound system so that the police can clear traffic congestion through an announcement.
Parsekar said that in case of a traffic situation which a four-wheeler cannot access, the two-wheelers will enable the police to reach the spot.
Referring to helmets being made compulsory in Goa, Parsekar said that this bike will be used for issuing challans for traffic violators.
