Marathi actresses sport the short hair look
Like many Bollywood actresses who have been sporting short hairstyles lately, some Marathi actresses too in recent times have opted to go short with their crowning glory.
While most of them have chopped their hair owing to professional commitments, there are others who have chosen to part with their long tresses to combat the scorching summer heat.
Anusha Dandekar Anusha recently posted pictures of her new haircut on a micro blogging site.
The VJ-turned-actress wanted a fresh look for summer and for her new television show. She said, “I’ve always had hair till my elbows and my thick mane makes me feel hot. So I thought summer is the best time to experiment with a short haircut. Plus, I have a new TV show coming up for which I wanted to try out a new look.” As short hair is easier to manage, Anusha is quite enjoying it. Talking about the reactions her short crop received, she said, “I got mixed reactions from friends but my parents complimented me.”
Mrinal Kulkarni For the first time ever, Mrinal has styled her hair in a short bob for the big screen. The actor has chopped her locks for her role in Aiyyaa director Sachin Kundalkar’s upcoming project, Rajwade & Sons. She said, “Kundalkar, who wanted to give me a different look, inquired hesitantly if I was willing to cut my hair short. I agreed instantly as I have not had the chance to experiment with my hair on screen. Also it is great that this coincided with summers.” Informing how she won’t be able to stick to this style for long, she said, “I start shooting for a film June onwards, where my character sports longer hair. If my hair does not grow long enough till then, I will have to use a wig.”
Priya Bapat Actor Priya, who chopped off her lustrous mane in February, said, “I was surprised when some people asked me why I was aping Bollywood actresses. I was clueless that such a trend is in right now in Bollywood. I got bored of the long hair that I have been sporting for some time now. Also as I am not shooting for any project currently, it was the best time to go for a short haircut.” Speaking about her experience with a shorter crop, Priya said, “After cutting my hair, I realized that I can’t tie my hair even when I’m feeling hot. With longer hair you have multiple options. But I am not regretting the decision and am very happy with my new look.”

Shivani Rangole Shivani, who recently got an asymmetric crop, similar to that of actor Anushka Sharma in PK, said, “I wanted a peppy and energetic look for the summers. As I loved Anushka’s hairstyle in her latest film, I went for a similar look with highlights to make it look sexy.” Adding how seasons always rule our style, she said, “Every season has a particular mood and the short haircut best suits the hot summer season. It also goes well with summery outfits like shorts, hot pants and even Indian wear.”
Smita Gondkar To fit her character of a schoolgirl for her upcoming film Light Ek Kaloakh, Smita got her hair trimmed into a long bob. She said, “I sport two different looks in the film, where one is that of a scientist who constantly drifts back in time to her schooldays and the other of the schoolgirl. To make me look younger, the makers wanted me to sport short hair. For the character’s sake I was willing to cut my hair, but was sceptical of chopping it too short as it would restrict my other projects. We settled on a shoulder length bob and thankfully, it fit the bill perfectly. For the scientist’s character with long hair, I am wearing a wig. This is the first time the audience will see me with short hair.”
