Nipaniya residents in Indore protest against liquor shop
INDORE: After Banganga, residents of Nipaniya raised their voice against liquor shop at residential areas. On Wednesday they fiercely protested and forcefully shut down a country liquor shop in front of a temple near a township Summer Park.
The protest began with women raising slogans. However, the agitation took an ugly turn when the women tried to vandalize the shop and threw liquor bottles on road.
Timely intervention by police prevented severe damages.
Madhuri Shukla, a resident of Summer Park, said the liquor shop is just a few metres away from the entrance gate to the society. “The place where the shop has been opened is the last stop of the city bus. Many women come back home late. They are often subjected to lewd remarks,” she added. Pushpa Shikharwar, another resident, said the locality already has two liquor shops. “How many liquor shops will be opened in the city? They are a nuisance,” she added.
Manjit Singh Tomar, a resident, alleged that the liquor shop has been running on encroached government land in front of the temple. On Tuesday, residents of Banganga had protested in a unique way by standing in front of a liquor shop and distributing butter milk to customers.
