    Precious jewels & rare gaitonde go under the hammer at Mumbai's Pundole Gallery

    On April 9, effects from the private collection of late Ernevaz J Dubash, a wellknown art connoisseur, will go under the hammer at Mumbai's Pundole Art Gallery.

    On April 9, effects from the private collection of late Ernevaz J Dubash, a wellknown art connoisseur, will go under the hammer at Mumbai's Pundole Art Gallery.
    Among the highlights of the estate are Mughal and Deccani paintings from the 16th-18th century and several pieces of jewellery, a crystal chandelier and Bombay blackwood furniture.

    The prize catch is slated to be a rare work by VS Gaitonde. Mallika Advani, auction curator and conductor, says, "Given recent prices for his (Gaitonde's) canvases, we hope the market will understand the signifi cance of the work and bid accordingly."

    Also up for grabs — Tyeb Mehta's 'Red Shawl' from 1961, estimated to go for Rs 2.20-3 crore.
