Textual workshop on Sankara Advaita Vedanta concludes at SMVDU

KATRA, Apr 1: The School of Philosophy and Culture (SOPC), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra, organized “Textual Workshop on Sankara Advaita Vedanta”, sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi .
The Director of the workshop, Prof V N Jha, Retd Professor, University of Pune, covered and explained the conceptual repertoire of Sankara Advaita Vedanta. Vedanta Parisbhasha of Dharmaraja Adhvarindra (translated and annotated by Swami Madhavananda) was the referred text.
The chief guest of the valedictory session was Prof  Sudhir K Jain,  Vice Chancellor, SMVDU while  the Guest of Honour was Prof  V  N  Jha, Workshop Director. Prof  V  K Bhat (Dean, Faculty of HSS), Prof  Shiv Nirmohi (Retd  Professor), Dr  Anil K Tewari (Workshop Coordinator) and Dr  V  K  Tripathi (I/C Director, SOPC) also shared the dais.
Dr  A  K  Tewari presented a brief report on the textual workshop. Prof  Jha asserted that tradition does not spread dogmatism rather it promotes evidence based knowledge and rejects anything that is unnecessary.  Prof  Bhat reiterated his stand on the inability of English language to embrace the veracity of Indian languages.
Prof Nirmohi pointed out at the immense capacity of this region for higher studies.  Prof S K Jain expressed his immense liking for Philosophy discipline. He further added that Philosophy and its discourses can be applied to business to make India a better place to live.
There were more than 50 participants from all over India. Praveen Singh (University of Delhi) bagged the first prize while  Simran Raina (SMVD University) came second and the third prize was bagged by Utsav Roy (Jadavpur University),  Lily Biswas (Kolkata) and  Satish K  Tewari (Lucknow).
The session culminated with a vote of thanks Dr  V  K  Tripathi.
