Yadava College celebrated its 46th annual day and sports day on the college premises here on Wednesday.

Chief guest R. Gopalakrishnan, Member of Parliament from the Madurai constituency and also an alumnus of the college, planted a sapling on the campus on the occasion and inaugurated the new alumni building.

Addressing the celebrations, Mr. Gopalakrishnan asked the students to follow the words of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who asked youngsters to carve a path for themselves and achieve their goals.

He further urged the students to make use of the opportunities made available by the college and said that he would contribute towards the development of the college through the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds.

Principal S. Dhanasekaran presented the annual report and said there were 943 graduating students. In the report, he spoke in detail about the ECO WASH programme supported by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication in India undertaken by the college which aims to create awareness of water, sanitation and hygiene among villagers. A citation was also read out about Professor K. Muthukrishnan from the Tamil Department on his 25 years of service in the college before retirement.

The students of the college put up a cultural programme on the occasion.
