Migrant labourer killed in accident

In a freak accident, a migrant woman labourer from Odisha, working in a brick kiln, was killed in a road mishap on the outskirts of Theegalaguttapalli village of Karimnagar mandal on Tuesday night.

Karimnagar rural police station Sub-Inspector L. Srinu told ‘The Hindu’ on Wednesday that the migrant labourer was identified as Bairothi Nag (22) of Ganiyari village of Muppada district in Odisha State.

She was returning in a tractor after unloading the bricks in Karimnagar when she suddenly fell down from the vehicle and came under its wheels.

The body was sent for post-mortem to the government headquarters hospital.

The police said that they had not received any complaint and waiting for the arrival of victim’s father from Odisha.

In the meantime, Lok Satta Udyama Samstha district unit stated that the victim was actually a minor and demanded stern action against the brick-klin owner.

In a press note here on Wednesday, Lok Satta district president N. Srinivas and secretary Prakash Holla said that the employing minors in brick kilns and sending a girl outside the worksite during night was a serious offence.

Stating that there was a foul play in the death of the minor, they demanded that the police should conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and punish the owner seriously for violating labour laws.
