Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1100 GMT, March 26

Chinese stocks ended mixed after volatile trading on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.58 percent, or 21.37 points, to finish at 3,682.09 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dipped 0.35 percent, or 44.12 points, to close at 12,712.98 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses shrank to 1.20 trillion yuan (195.5 billion U.S. dollars) from 1.26 trillion yuan the previous trading day.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 20.25 points, or 0.99 percent, to 2,022.56 at the close. Trading volume stood at 338.8 million shares worth 5.1 trillion won (4.6 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended sharply lower Thursday following big drops in the overnight U.S. stocks market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plunged 275.08 points, or 1. 39 percent, from Wednesday at 19,471.12.

The turnover was about 2,795.9 billion yen (about 23.41 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.44 percent higher on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 34. 76 points to 7,871.10. The all-share index went up by 13.64 points, or 0.30 percent, to 4,546.20.

Trading volume reached 1.57 billion shares worth 9.51 billion pesos (212.41 million U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.5 percent on Thursday with the weighted index down 48.71 points at 9,619.12, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 115.18 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.68 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 556.16 points on Thursday, down 4.77 points, or 0.85 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 83.825 million shares worth 1.661 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (77.45 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 86 stocks went up, 100 stocks fell down, while 100 stocks remained unchanged.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 31.15 points, or 0.13 percent to 24,497.08 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,399.84 and 24, 592.01. Turnover totaled 83.21 billion HK dollars (about 10.72 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished down at the close of trade on Thursday.

At the close the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 94.2 points, or 1.58 percent, lower at 5879.1, while the broader All Ordinaries index fell 87.4 points, or 1.47 percent, to 5849.7.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Thursday with its composite index unchanged at 1,475.09.

A total of 4,455 shares worth about 33 million Lao kip (about 4, 000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 83.14 points on Thursday, down 0.01 points, or 0. 01 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 38.41 million shares worth 480.898 billion Vietnamese dong (22.55 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday, a decrease of 0.31 percent in volume and 6.51 percent in value against the previous trading session.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended mixed here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,818.42, down 0. 68 point or 0.04 percent, and the Emas was at 12,482.28, up 12.69 points or 0.10 percent.

Turnover declined to 2.45 billion shares valued at 1.95 billion ringgit Malaysia (532.28 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.04 billion shares valued at 2.12 billion ringgit Malaysia (578.05 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 12.57 points, or 0.37 percent, to close at 3,431.59.

A total of 1.50 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 21 billion Singapore dollars (693.7 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 36.69 points, or 0. 68 percent, to 5,368.80 on Thursday.

Some 241,640 transactions were booked, involving 6.43 billion shares worth 6.56 trillion rupiah (about 504.65 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved down 16.39 points, or 1.08 percent to close at 1,496.41 points.

Some 9.84 billion shares worth 35.12 billion baht (about 1.08 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.
