SILANG, Cavite – No relative of fugitive Moro National Liberation Front founding chair Nur Misuari has joined the ranks of the police force.

Police Inspector Mohammadizar Caluang Misuari, who graduated from the Philippine National Police Academy on Thursday, denied he is a grandson of the Moro leader.

Nur Misuari has a standing arrest warrant in connection with the Zamboanga siege that killed more than 200 people in September 2013.

In a chance interview at the sidelines of the PNPA commencement exercises, Mohammadizar Misuari debunked reports that he is the grandson of the former governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

“Hindi po ako naapektuhan kasi alam ko naman po sa sarili ko na I don’t have any relationship with Nur po,” he told reporters.

He said he only shares the same last name with the Moro rebel leader, who has been tagged as the mastermind in several attacks that killed dozens of individuals in Mindanao.

“I’m not his grandson. Kaapelyido lang po (We only have the same last name),” Misuari, a native of Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu province, said.

This was after PNPA spokesperson Chief Inspector Richie Yatar and class valedictorian Police Inspector Dennis Yuson claimed in an Inquirer report that Mohammadizar Misuari is related to Nur Misuari.

Asked how he could use his profession to promote peace in Mindanao, the newly commissioned PNP officer vowed to support the peace talks, which he said is the only option to end the longstanding armed conflicts in southern Philippines.

Misuari is among the 225 police inspectors who will serve at the PNP, 11 will be assigned at the Bureau of Fire Protection and 10 will be commissioned officers of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. AC
