Jitendra's spat with director turns ugly
The Marathi film industry is still waking up to the importance of film promotions.
And while filmmakers are trying to ensure that enough planning and budget is ensured for promotions, there still seems to be a lack of communication between the filmmakers and actors. The recent spat between director Milind Kavde and actor Jitendra Joshi is a case in point.
Milind, the director of Just Gammat has accused actor Jitendra Joshi of unprofessionalism on his social networking site recently.
The filmmaker further stated that he would never want to work with Jitendra in future. However, the actor has refuted all allegations by saying that he was short-changed during the shooting of the film and his unavailability was only because of the delay in the release of the film.
When we contacted Milind, he said, Jitendra usually avoids promoting films made by lesser known producers and directors. He did the same with director Mrinalini Patil during the release of Rakhandar. In my case, I informed Jitendra about the films release dates at least two months in advance, but he refused to be a part of the promotions even after being called several times. I was so upset with his unprofessional behaviour that I expressed my resentment on my social networking page.
The director further added that the release of Just Gammat was also postponed to adjust with the actors availability. Initially, we were supposed to release the film on February 20, 2015 but when we contacted Jitendra, he informed us that he will be busy with the promotions of Baji, hence we decided to postpone our films release.
However Jitendra has a different story. The actor said, I was shocked when I read Milinds post about me being unprofessional on his social networking site. It is true that the film took two years to release, but I have worked hard for it. When we started shooting, a well known writer was supposed to write the dialogues, but once we started the shoot, I was informed that he was not part of the film. But I ensured that I work hard and we completed the film. The makers did not check with me on my availability for promotions in advance. Since now I am busy with my upcoming project
Kaakan, it is not possible for me to give dates for the promotions of Just Gammat. The actor further said that he is upset with the filmmaker for having escalated the issue to the ABMCM (Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal).
When contacted Vijay Patkar, president, ABMCM said, Milind has discussed this issue with me and I have spoken to Jitendra about the same. Instead of getting into verbal spats, they need to solve the matter amicably. It is a small industry and all of us have to work together.
