DUMKA: State welfare minister and local MLA Louis Marandi has directed the management of Techno India, a Kolkata-based institution, to improve the facilities for students of Dumka Engineering College.
Marandi visited the college campus on Monday evening after being apprised about the problems being faced by students in terms of poor academic standard and other facilities.
The state government has entrusted Techno India with the responsibility of running the Dumka Engineering College on a public private partnership (PPP) mode.
But it has failed to fulfill the aspirations of the students enrolled here prompting them to take recourse to agitation, sources said.
Recently, students of the college had taken principal B R Bandopadyaya and the coordinator of Techno India, Kunal Ganguly hostage for hours to protest against the poor academic facilities and substandard food provided to them despite heavy charges.
The college management has assured to take necessary measures for improving the academic standard in the next one and a half months, apart from providing wi fi and internet connectivity, in the next fortnight. tnn
