Guj gifts Jal Shav Vahini to Modi’s Varanasi

VARANASI: The city has received two ‘Jal Shav-Vahini’ (corpse carrier boats) from Ahemedabad for transportation of bodies to cremation ghats including Manikarnika Ghat and Harishchandra Ghat. Union finance minister Arun Jaitely is expected to launch the boats on March 28.
A Gujarat based NGO- Satyameva Jayate is looking after the project.
According to the people associate with the NGO, the big size boats with loading capacity of 40 people and carrying four bodies will be stationed at the two ends -Bhaisasur Ghat and Samne Ghat.
One boat will ferry between Bhaisasur Ghat and Manikarnika Ghat, the cremation place, while another boat from Samne Ghat will go to Harishchandra Ghat.
The NGO has also undertaken the work of sanitation and maintenance of cremation ghats. Main emphasis is being given on sanitation and maintenance of the ghats where 10 pyre-platforms have been proposed at each cremation ghats.
