The county teams won both games at the Captains/Veterans boys' basketball all-star game in Woodstock

Woodstock Collegiate Institute held the annual Captains/Veterans boys’ basketball all-star game Wednesday night.

 

Both the junior and senior of the TVRA East Division were divided into city and county teams with the city being composed of WCI, College Avenue and Huron Park, while the county was made up of Lord Dorchester, Glendale and Ingersoll District Collegiate.

On the junior side, the county won 58-54 in an overtime game. IDCI’s Jackson Does was the county team’s player of the game for the second straight year with 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while teammate Brock Hussey had 10 points and three rebounds with Connor Depodesta and Shayne Bartman each adding seven points. For the city, Huron Park’s Nick Keely was the team’s player of the game with 16 points, six rebounds and two assists. Kyle Charko of CASS had 11 points and four rebounds with Derric Pollock of WCI adding seven points.

The county won the senior game 59-58. IDCI’s Matt Holmes grabbed player of the game honours for his team with 11 points, five rebounds, an assist and two blocks. Glendale’s Steven Gilvesy had 13 points, three rebounds and an assist with Glendale teammate also contributing 12 points and two rebounds. For the city, Colton DeJong of CASS had 14 points, four rebounds and two assists with Huron Park’s Josh Hounsell adding 17 points and two rebounds and Huskies’ teammate Nick Campbell chipping in 10 points and nine rebounds.

The event raised more than $400 for charity, which goes to Domestic Abuse Services Oxford and the Children’s Aid Society.
