TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Floods with depths ranging between 10 centimeters and one meter have once again inundated several areas across Jakarta, following intense showers that began on Wednesday afternoon.
"There have been multiple reports from several districts across the capital of floods on scores of major thoroughfares, as well as the continuously increasing water depths at several floodgates which dot the capital," Panji, an official from the Center for Control and Operations of Jakarta's Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), said on Wednesday.
Panji said that Kampung Melayu in Jatinegara district had been inundated by floods, which range between 20 cm to one meter, since 14.00, Jakarta time. The worst affected areas are located roughly around 15 meters from Ciliwung's riverbanks, affecting 40 neighborhood units (RT) across seven community groups (RW) that are home to 2,088 residents.
"That said, no one seems to have felt the need to evacuate their homes," continued Panji.
Other affected areas include Palmeriam in Matraman, which is inundated by floods between 10-20 centimeters, whereas Cipinang Melayu saw inundation between 20-30 centimeters.
Jakarta's BPBD also advised motorists to steer clear of several thoroughfares where significant floods were reported, which included Jl. Pondok Indah, Jl. TB Simatupang, Jl. Fatmawati, Jl. Lebak Bulus, Jl. Tanah Kusir, Jl. Kemang Raya, Jl. Arteri Pondok Indah, Jl. Wijaya Timur Raya, and the underpass below Jakarta's Outer Ring Road (JORR) in Kali Malang, East Jakarta.
BPBD also said that the flood alert at Angke's floodgate had been raised to "Standby III", as the depth of the water at the location had increased to 190 centimeters as per 17:00, Jakarta time.
"There is a real chance that water levels may continue to rise as skies over the capital has yet to clear," said Panji.
Jakarta's BPBD also advises residents who reside along the course of Ciledug Creek and Angke Hulu, as if these major waterways overflows, their tributaries could cause floods around Kosambi, Rawa Buaya, Green Garden, Kedoya Utara, and Cengkareng.
