Guwahati: Filmmaker from the state, Biswajit Bora, will set a benchmark in filmmaking by making the country’s first carbon neutral Hindi film, ‘Aisa Yeh Jahan’.
Carbon neutral filming involves reversing damages caused to an area by a film shoot through actions that protect the environment.
The production crew of the film, along with a Mumbai-based NGO, has planted close to 400 saplings in shooting locations across the country.

Bora has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with villagers living on the outskirts of Bhiwandi in Maharashtra (also a shooting location for the film) where he planted close to 370 saplings.
“During shooting, the areas suffer damages like excessive plastic use and fuel consumption through vehicles and generators. We did a calculation on how much damage we had done to the environment during shooting and, based on that, we have tried to reverse the damages,” the director explained.
“We signed an MoU with villagers living on the outskirts of Bhiwandi. The MoU is valid for 15 years and will ensure villagers do not uproot the trees we have planted. We also planted 140 saplings in Thane,” added Bora.

The film stars Palash Sen, Ira Dubey, Yashpal Sharma, Tinu Anand, Kymsleen Kholie, Prisha Dabbas, Satish Sharma, Saurabh Pandey and Carol Gracias. It also stars actors from the state like Bishnu Khargharia, Reena Bora, Chetana Das, Jupitora Bhuyan, Rabijita Gogoi, Rupam Chetia, Pakija Begum, Ayan Devsarma.
Parts of the film have been shot in Assam. Production people associated with the film are planning to eliminate their carbon footsteps here as well.
The film is scheduled to be released in May.
