Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam has made arrangements for inauguration of Mallikarjuna Mahamandapam and Rajagopuram on April 10.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Kanaka Durga temple Executive Officer Ch. Narsing Rao said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate Mallikarjuna Mahamandapam and Rajagopuram. Purushottama Teertha Bharati of Sivaganga peetham, disciple of Sringeri seer, would install kalasa and yantra on Rajagopuram as per rituals, he said.

The temple consulted Sringeri Seer Bharati Teertha to suggest an auspicious day, ‘muhurtam’, for the inauguration.

The seer suggested that two days — March 29 and April 10 — were auspicious. Subsequently, April 10 was finalised, he said.

The Mahamandapam at the Kanaga Durga temple has been built on the lines of the Tirumala Vaikuntham queue complex.

The temple spent nearly Rs. 25.95 crore on mandapam works, while Rajagopuram cost was Rs. 15.55 crore, he said.

When asked, he said that the ramps for Mahamandapam would be constructed as soon as land acquisition or outright purchase of Gosala situated downhill of Indrakeeladri was completed.

The temple authorities commenced the works in March 2009, and announced that the Mahamandampam would be completed in a year. However, the works were not completed according to schedule for various reasons, including contractors’ delay. Similarly, the Rajagopuram was supposed to be completed in one and a half years from February 2009.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the structures, says Kanaka Durga temple Executive Officer
