Guwahati: A 30-year-old woman, who tested positive for
H1N1, died at a private hospital in Biswanath Chariali town of
Sonitpur district on Wednesday. With this, the
swine flu death toll in the state has risen to three.
According to health officials of the state-run Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, the patient suffered multiple organ failure. She was admitted in the hospital in a critical condition.
The total number of H1N1-positive cases has risen to 24, with a 23-year-old woman from Jorhat district testing positive on Tuesday.
“We are trying to get details of the latest
casualty. What we have heard is that the deceased was a 30-year-old woman. As the death took place at a private hospital, the details will take some time to come. By Thursday, we will get all the information,” said B C Bhagawati of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.
Assam reported its first H1N1 casualty on March 9. A 57-year-old man from Jorhat district, who was also diabetic, died of swine flu on March 4.
