Congress members in Coimbatore led by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee vice-president R. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday said that Karti Chidambaram cannot ask the District Congress Committee president V.M.C. Manoharan to submit his resignation.

Mr. Chidambaram had on Tuesday asked him to submit resignation for “arbitrarily removing six workers” from the party, and tender an apology. The six were later reinstated.

Mr. Radhakrishnan, general secretary ‘Venus’ Mani, and executive committee member R. Venkatachalam, said that Mr. Chidambaram was trying to weaken the Congress, create confusion and resentment among its cadre and send confusing signals at a time when the party was on the path of resurgence under president E.V.K.S. Elangovan.

Mr. Venkatachalam said that Mr. Chidambaram’s statements in Coimbatore had agitated the workers to such an extent that there would be severe repercussions.

Mr. Mani said that the office-bearers in Coimbatore had written to the party high command seeking disciplinary action against Mr. Karti Chidambaram.
