Mandya MP C.S. Puttaraju and other prominent Janata Dal (Secular) leaders, who have been named in the ‘Mandya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) illegal site allotment case’, may face the heat of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry.

The MUDA had allegedly violated certain rules/conditions and allotted 107 sites to several politicians and others. A case was filed with the Lokayukta some years back and the investigation was recently handed over to CBI.

CBI officials had earlier visited the MUDA office in February. On Friday, the CBI collected 119 files pertaining to the case from Mandya office, sources at the Lokayukta told presspersons on Wednesday.

JD(S) leaders Mr. Puttaraju, A.B. Ramesh Babu Bandisiddegowda, Srirangapatna MLA; former MLA M. Srinivas; former MUDA chairperson Vidya Nagendra; Mandya City Municipal Council member M.J. Chikkanna; and district JD(S) president D. Ramesh have been named.

Sites were also allotted to some relatives/family members of journalists and MUDA employees in Vivekananda Layout before November 30, 2009.

T.S. Sathyananda, advocate and Congress leader, had filed a complaint before the Karnataka Lokayuta some years back. In 2014, then MUDA Commissioner K. Mathai registered an FIR against the alleged beneficiaries of the scam. The names of D. Upendra Nayak, former Commissioner of MUDA, and Nissar Ahmed, former Planning Director of the authority, figured in the FIR.

The MUDA incurred a loss of over Rs. 30 crore due to the illegal allotments, sources at the Lokayukta said.
