The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the State Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar and the Election Commission. The court asked him to file a counter-affidavit against charges of misrepresenting his educational qualifications in the Assembly elections held recently.
The Bench of Justice Manmohan Singh directed Mr. Tomar as well as the Election Commission to file their replies on May 17. BJP leader Nand Kishore Garg who had contested the election against Mr. Tomar had alleged that he had wilfully suppressed his educational qualification in his nomination papers and misrepresented himself as a law graduate and advocate.
The court has also asked the Election Commission to preserve the documents filed by Mr. Tomar.
Fake degree
Meanwhile, there is a separate petition in the High Court alleging that Mr. Tomar had taken admission into the Bishwanath Singh Institute of Legal Study College in Bihar on the basis of a fake degree. He has also been issued a notice by the Bar Council of India for a similar allegation.
