Molestation: labourer held

The Bantwal Rural Police on Sunday arrested an agricultural labourer on the charge of attempting to outrage the modesty of a 14-year-old girl.

Police gave the name of the accused as Vishnu Poojary, one of two labourers working in the fields of the girl’s grandparents. He allegedly held the girl’s hand while getting drinking water when no one was there in the house, police said.

The accused allegedly called the girl who was playing in the neighbour’s house and asked for water. When she went inside the house, he allegedly followed her and held her hand. On hearing the girl’s screams, the neighbours rushed to the spot and caught hold of the accused, police said.

The police have registered cases under Section 354B of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act.

Two die in accident

Two persons on a motorcycle were fatally knocked down by a tipper near Ujire in Belthangady taluk on Sunday. The police have identified them as Sundar and Harish, residents of Mundaje. They were going to Ujire. The Belthangady Police have registered a case.
