An investigation is underway following a passerby's discovery of the body of a man east of the ski jump facilities at Canada Olympic Park early Wednesday morning.

A family spokesperson has identified the victim of Wednesday morning's suspicious death as 25-year-old Mohammed Ali Mohamud, a member of Calgary's Somali commmunity

The initial call came in at 2:45 a.m., when a citizen noticed the body of a young man near the dead end at the northernmost point of 85 St. S.W. and called 911.

“He was out for a drive, stopped to take in the view and came across the body,” said Duty Inspector Paul Wyatt.

EMS arrived at the scene and found the patient unresponsive. Resuscitation efforts were not attempted as the man had passed away.

Police tape was placed across the service road near the intersection of 85 St. and Canada Olympic View S.W.

The death of the man considered suspicious.

“He’s been tentatively identified, pending the outcome of the autopsy tomorrow and the next of kin notification,” said Wyatt.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Calgary imam Abdi Hersy spoke on behalf of the Mohamud family.

"They are devastated," explained Hersy. "We are all devastated. I personally know this family and I came to the house a number of times but for other events, beautiful happy events. This was sad and this adds to the problem that this community, especially this family, are going through."

Anyone with information about the events leading up to the man's death, or unusual activity in the area on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
