FIR to be accepted in Urdu: Bihar CM
PATNA: CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said Urdu was the language of India and it was the government responsibility to help in its development.
Speaking on the first day of Jashn-e-Urdu organized at the SK Memorial Hall here, Nitish said that it was during his tenure that the decision to have Urdu teachers in all government schools was taken and he was trying hard to help this language grow.
The CM said applications written in Urdu would be accepted in the government offices and the reply would be sent in the same language as far as possible.
“If someone lodges FIR in Urdu, the police stations have to accept it,” he said.

The CM honoured 11 Urdu littérateurs and poets with cash awards on the occasion. They were Mohd Muslehuddin, Md Mazharul Haq, Dr Mohd Saqib Anwar, Mohd Jamaluddin, Mohd Jakir, Mohd Shahabuddin, Sadar Alam Gauhar, Tahsin Rozi, Tabassum Naz, Dr Kasim Khurshid and Sayed Arshad Aslam.
Nitish said Urdu made Hindi richer; that’s why the state government declared it the second state language. He said the government would make all possible effort for its development. He said everyone should try to learn Urdu. “The government has decided to fill all vacant posts of Urdu teachers and translators. I have been informed that the process of appointing 300 Urdu translators has already been started. The appointment process was delayed because sufficient number of eligible applicants were not available. That's why the state government lowered the eligibility criteria,” he said.

Noted Urdu poets like Manawwar Rana, Nida Fazli, Waseem Barelvi, Ana Dehilvi, Sultan Akhtar and Sabina Adib regaled the audience with their satire and contemporary poetry.
Professor Ahktar Wasi urged Nitish to expedite the process of filing up the vacancy of 27,000 Urdu teachers. “Relating Urdu with any community or religion is wrong as a language knows no religion. And relationship of Urdu with non-Muslims has been even stronger,” said Wasi.
Ministers Naushad Alam, Shyam Rajak, Javed Iqbal Ansari, deputy chairman of legislative council Saleem Pervez, Prof Abdul Manna Tarzih, and Sanaullah were among those present on the occasion.
