NEW DELHI: A Gujarat businessman was robbed of his belongings by a couple who posed as representatives of a five-star hotel in south Delhi. Mohan Singh was taken to a house in south Delhi's Munirka and locked up in a room with a few women. A few minutes later, a man posing as a policeman, entered the room and beat him, accusing him of running a sex racket.
He was then robbed of his cash and belongings.
Singh owns a business in Ahmedabad and had arrived in Delhi last week to meet an associate and collect payment from a customer. He was putting up in a hotel at Paharganj. When he returned to his hotel he saw the couple sitting at the reception. The two approached Singh and claimed that they were representing a five-star hotel and had come to the city for business. They offered to take him to a better hotel in the city.
Singh said that they drove him to Munirka and he was taken to a house where they asked him to wait for the manager to arrive. He was served food. There were a few women in the room as well. After a few minutes, a man barged into the room.
"He asked me what I was doing there. When I said that the couple had brought me there he started thrashing me. He asked the women in the room to leave," said Singh. The man then snatched his bag and mobile phone and asked him to leave the city immediately. Singh managed to reach the Vasant Vihar police station later and registered a complaint. A case of robbery was registered. Police are examining CCTV footage from the hotel in Paharganj to identify the couple.
