NAGPUR: Taking suo motu cognisance of a TOI report on burning garbage in the open, Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Maharashtra government and NMC, asking them to reply by Friday. A division bench comprising Justice Arun Chaudhari and Justice PN Deshmukh appointed Shashibhushan Wahane as amicus curiae to draft the petition and plead the case.
Citing various complaints, TOI had on Monday published a report on how citizens and sanitary workers burn heaps of waste in the open, making others vulnerable to serious health hazards.
The complaints from Civil Lines, Dharampeth and Raj Nagar said that sanitary workers responsible for solid waste management indiscriminately burn garbage, which emits poisonous gases and foul smell.
