GHAZIABAD: An 18-year-old boy was arrested on Wednesday after pictures of him allegedly posing with a country-made pistol with friends surfaced on a social networking website.
The accused, Saurabh, is a student of Class 12 in Modi Inter College in the Modinagar area of Ghaziabad. He had posted the pictures on Facebook and the two boys seen with him in the pictures were identified as Rahul (18) and Ankur (18) by police.
All three are in the same class and are residents of Fafrana in Modinagar.
Vinod Pandey, an SSI at Modinagar police station, came across the pictures on March 21 when he was surfing his own Facebook account. "There was a notification from the site to add Saurabh under the People You May Know section. His profile picture showed him holding a country-made gun. When I checked his photo gallery, there were two more pictures showing Saurabh and two other boys posing with a gun," Pandey said.
Police said Saurabh, who was contacted on Wednesday, could not provide them with any satisfactory reply when questioned about how he got the gun. Following this, an FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Arms Act with Modinagar police station and he was arrested."Saurabh has been sent to judicial custody. Efforts are on to nab Rahul and Ankur," a senior police officer said.
