Forbes: Yankees worth $3.2B, Mets turn $25M profit

The Yankees are Major League Baseball’s most valuable team for an 18th consecutive year, coming in at nearly triple the league’s average value, according to a survey released by Forbes on Wednesday.

Forbes claimed the Yankees are worth $3.2 billion, up from $2.5 billion last year and matching the Dallas Cowboys for the high among US teams (Real Madrid has the global high value at $3.44 billion).

Next in value come the Dodgers ($2.4 billion), Red Sox ($2.1B), Giants ($2B) and Cubs ($1.8B). The magazine pegged the average worth of an MLB team is $1.2 billion, an increase of 48 percent from last year.

The Mets pulled in at seventh, with an estimated value of $1.35 billion. The cash-strapped Amazin’s also turned a profit of $25 million.

The Cardinals and Cubs are the leaders in that category, each north of $73 million.

Forbes estimated the Yankees’ revenue last year at an MLB-high $508 million, more than $100 million ahead of the Dodgers, though the operating income of $8.1 million was indicative of the big-spending Bronx titan.
