BENGALURU: Startup City cops got another feather in the cap by becoming the only police department in the country to be part of the
Prime Minister’s Twitter Samvad programme.
Twitter on Monday launched this governance service as part of the Indian government's
Digital India initiative. While other police departments didn’t make it to the scheme, all three Twitter accounts operated by Bengaluru police — City police commissioner (@cpblr), Bangalore city police (@BlrCityPolice) and Bangalore traffic police (@blrcitytraffic) -- made it to the list of 16 important accounts selected from all over the country.
The service will essentially deliver a set of curated tweets from government agencies and leaders' accounts to mobile users as SMSes. These will give updates on government services, policies and activities to citizens who sign up through 16 government accounts in the launch phase. Anyone with a mobile phone can register for it by giving a missed call to a unique number for each of the partners.
City police commissioner
MN Reddi said that three most important tweets will be sent anyone who gives a missed call to a particular number. “Even if that person doesn’t have a twitter account or a smart phone, she will get tweets in the form of an sms. We’re proud that all three of our Twitter accounts made it to the list,” he said.
