IAS officer DK Ravi’s father-in-law Hanumanthrayappa has alleged that the CID had deleted some of the video footage of CCTV camera installed at his residence. The state CID, however, declined to comment on the allegation saying it was up to the CBI to find out the truth.
He alleged that the CID, which was initially entrusted with the probe into the officer’s death, had taken the CCTV footage two days after Ravi’s death (which took place on March 16) and returned it on March 23. He was surprised to see some portions deleted. The footage recorded before 10.30 am on March 16 was deleted, Hanumnthrayappa alleged.
“He (Hanumanthrayappa) must tell the CBI about his findings,” CID head Pranab Mohanty said. The state CID was initially entrusted the investigation into the case. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was under immense pressure, had recently announced handing over the case to the CBI by making a statement in the Assembly.
Ravi (35), considered to be an honest and upright officer, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his Bengaluru apartment. The police version that it was a case of suicide was questioned by Ravi’s admirers as protests swept across the state demanding that the death must be probed by a central agency.
