Marriage no bar!

Of the many reasons we love the Hindi film industry one is its knack of defying convention. While women in the not-so good old days were asked to sacrifice their careers for the sake of family, today's actresses have proved that women can balance their passions as well as their family life with ease. And what’s more, their marriage hasn’t hampered with their success either! They’re growing leaps and bounds, ushering in a new age where marriage is indeed no bar.

Even though she’s only recently tied the knot with producer-director, Aditya Chopra, Rani is still working in full steam. Soon after her wedding, she starred in Mardaani, a film about a woman cop who busts a human trafficking ring. We can’t wait to see what she does next!

The fantastic actress married producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor in 2012. Soon after her wedding, she took off to complete her duties as a jury member for the Cannes Film Festival. She was seen in films like Ghanchakkar and Shaadi Ke Side Effects and even lent her voice to the character of Draupadi in the animated version of Mahabharata. She continues to be an ambassador for women’s rights and starred in commercials for national women’s health schemes. She is currently working on her next film, Hamari Adhuri Kahaani.

Kareena has always been a force to be reckoned with. Ever since she tied the knot with actor Saif Ali Khan in 2012, she has only upped her game. An established actress and fashionista, she starred in a number of films such as Satyagraha, Talaash, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Singham Returns post her marriage. Kareena also has a number of plum projects, like Udta Punjab and Bajrangi Bhaijaan that she is working on. She’s been a commanding presence on the fashion front too and she recently stole the show at the finale of Lakme Fashion Week in an Anamika Khanna ensemble.

Shilpa Shetty’s marriage to Raj Kundra in 2009 was a beginning of a whole new chapter, as she tapped into her business side and became the co-owner of an IPL team, Rajasthan Royals, along with her husband. Strongly supporting her team, Shilpa is always seen in the dug outs and the stands. She even graced the judges’ panel for the dance reality TV show, Nach Baliye. Along with her husband, she launched her own production house and even produced her first film in 2014, titled Dishkiyaoon. What’s more, she is even an advocate for fitness through yoga and has released her own yoga DVD too!

Aishwarya has been unstoppable since she won the Miss World crown in 1994. So when she married Abhishek Bachchan in 2007, things were no different. Continuing to work in both Indian and international film industries, she acted in films like Jodhaa Akbar, Guzaarish and Raavan in Bollywood while also bagging roles in The Last Legion and Pink Panther 2. After her impactful performance in Guzaarish, she took a break to be with her daughter Aaradhya. But Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hasn’t been out of the limelight and makes her presence felt at events here in India, as well as representing the nation at international festivals like Cannes Film Festival. She’s currently working on her next project, Jazbaa. And will soon start shooting for Karan Johar's next directorial venture, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Raveena Tandon tied the knot with Anil Thadani in 2004. She changed course and focused her attention to television, as she played host to shows such as Isi Ka Naam Zindagi and Simply Baatein with Raveena. She has also judged a few reality shows like Comedy ka Maha Muqabala. Not only has she continued to be present and participative at many events across the country, she is making her way back to the big screen, with projects such as Bombay Velvet and a film with acclaimed director, Onir.

In one of the most glamorous wedding ceremonies, Karisma Kapoor tied the knot with Sanjay Kapur in 2003. Since then, Karisma has done a number of advertisements, magazine photo spreads and has even appeared on the dance reality show Nach Baliye as a judge. She made a comeback in films with Dangerous Isshq in 2012 and continues to dazzle on the ramp for many major designers. Since her marriage, Karisma has even engaged in philanthropic work and was the goodwill ambassador for the 2012 Pinkathon for breast cancer awareness.

Sonali Bendre married her spouse, Goldie Behl, in 2002 and has since established a career in TV. She has hosted a number of shows, right from the dance reality show Kya Masti Kya Dhoom…! to the more recent Mission Sapne – a philanthropic project with other Bollywood stars. Sonali has even been one of the judges on a season of Indian Idol and is currently a panelist for India’s Got Talent, along with Kirron Kher. She even made special appearances in films like Kal Ho Na Ho and Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbaai Dobaara!

Pretty much at the peak of her career, Madhuri decided to marry Dr. Sriram Nene in 1999. And soon after, she gave three powerful performances in Pukar, Lajja and Devdas, before relocating to the USA in 2002 to raise her children. She returned to the screen in 2007 with Aaja Nachle. She also took on the role of a judge on a hit reality TV show and has done films like Dedh Ishqiya and Gulaab Gang last year. What’s more, Madhuri was also named the Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and has engaged in many philanthropic activities too!

She worked in a number of films, including the blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, before taking a sabbatical to start a family. But Kajol was back with a bang 5 years later with Fanaa in 2006. Maintaining her presence with special appearances and endorsements, Kajol gave strong performances in My Name is Khan and We Are Family. To top that off, Kajol has even arrived on the fashion scene and is already working on her next film, Dilwale, with Shah Rukh Khan.

But even during her breaks, Sridevi maintained a professional presence; performing at the 52nd Filmfare Awards on a medley of her own songs and even being a part of the board of directors of the Asian Academy of Film and Television. Through her production house, Dreamz Unlimited, she has even produced four films and co-owns the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL team with husband Jay Mehta and friend Shah Rukh Khan. Her most recent on screen appearance was in a negative role in Gulaab Gang. Aside from this, Juhi has also been an active voice for radiation awareness, giving talks and attending seminars as part of the same.
