Agent: Manchester United made Nemanja Vidic enquiries in December

Manchester United made a move to re-sign Nemanja Vidic in the January transfer window, according to the Serbian's agent.

The 33-year-old bid farewell to United after eight years last summer, joining Inter Milan on a free transfer after signing a pre-contract agreement.

However, with Louis van Gaal failing to bring in defensive reinforcements, Vidic was tipped to return to Old Trafford.

And his agent Silvano Martina says United made approaches for his services in December, having previously tried to convince him to reject Inter's overtures.

“Will he stay at Inter? I think he should do, yes, because he has another two years on his contract,” Martina told Gazzetta TV.

“In fact, I want to reveal something. Last year he made a specific choice to come to Milan, seeing as Manchester United wanted to keep him and kept calling up to December.”

There have been reports of a rift between Vidic and Inter boss Roberto Mancini, with the Nerazzurri sitting in ninth in the Serie A table.

However, Martina is adamant there has been no bust-up involving his client and the ex-Manchester City chief.

He added: “Vidic is a great professional and never had problems with anyone, not even Mancini and Inter."
