Ford (IW 500/6) is recalling more than 220,000 vehicles, affecting several models, in North America for an issue with door handles along with two other problems.
The largest recall affects about 213,000 2011-2013 Explorer and Police Interceptor utility vehicles. A problem with a spring in the interior door latch could cause it to become unlatched in a side-impact crash potentially leading to injury.
The vehicles were produced at the Chicago factory. So far there have been no reported injuries or accidents related to the problem.
Another 1,725 Lincoln MKT limos and hearses from 2013 to 2015 are being recalled for a problem with a vacuum pump relay. There’s a chance a fire can start under the hood.
So far, Ford says it has reports of two fires related to the issue, but no injuries or accidents.
Ford also said it was recalling 6,500 F-Series Super Duty ambulances made between 2011 and 2013, along with some 2014-2015 of the same vehicles but with 7.7 liter diesel engines. All were made at the Kentucky truck plant.
The faulty sensor can lead to a high temperature condition, the fix is an update to the vehicle’s software. Ford says while it has no reports of problems, it’s getting ahead of a potential problem because of the “unique nature of ambulance and emergency vehicles.”
Ford says all the repairs will be at no cost to the customer.
