CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A Dartmouth College fraternity that had already been suspended is now accused of branding new members.
The Alpha Delta fraternity has a history of disciplinary violations, including hazing, underage service of alcohol and hosting unregistered events. The frat partly inspired the 1978 movie "Animal House."
College spokesman Justin Anderson says the recent allegations involve incidents that happened last fall, when the fraternity was suspended for policy violations in the winter and spring of 2014.
He says Dartmouth is extending the current suspension and is considering harsher punishment, including permanent removal of the fraternity, if the allegations are founded. It wasn't immediately clear what the members may have been branded with.
The investigation comes amid increased scrutiny of fraternities as colleges nationwide grapple with issues of high-risk drinking and sexual assault.
