Chiefs GM: Eric Berry in 'good spirits' during cancer treatment

Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey says that safety Eric Berry's treatment for cancer is going well.

Berry was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in December when doctors found a lump in his chest after he complained of chest pain following Kansas City's game against the Oakland Raiders on Nov. 20. He was placed on the Chiefs' non-football illness list and missed the rest of the reason.

Dorsey said that he has communicated with Berry via texts and added that he is in "good spirits, he's fine, he's driving, and he's going to conquer it."

"Well, anybody who knows Eric Berry knows that if there's a challenge presented to him, he will attack it with a vengeance," Dorsey said on Sirius XM NFL Radio. "And he will do that. Everything that I have gotten back has been very positive. I have not spoken with him on the phone for probably six weeks, but I have texts."

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told the Kansas City Star that he recently spoke with Berry and that he is "positive and upbeat."

Dorsey did not give an update about when the three-time Pro Bowl defender and 2013 first-team AP All-Pro is expected to return to the field.

Berry's doctors said that his cancer is "very treatable and potentially curable with standard chemotherapy approaches."
