Paul McCartney performs at Irving Plaza on Feb. 14 in New York City.

Look for Paul McCartney to make his first appearance at Lollapalooza this year, as he headlines the festival with Metallica, a group we haven't seen there since 1996.

The lineup, announced this morning, includes Sam Smith, Alabama Shakes, Florence + the Machine and The Weeknd among the 130 acts playing at the Chicago festival, slated to run July 31 to Aug. 2 at Grant Park.

McCartney is the Friday night headliner; Metallica is the Saturday night headliner.

Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell tells AP that "young talented artists will be performing alongside legends."

Others performing include Gary Clark Jr., and these acts with particularly wonderful names: Mista Cookie Jar & The Chocolate Chips, Peking Duk, In the Whale, Badbadnotgood, the War on Drugs, What so Not, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, First Aid Kit and Caked Up.

Three-day general admission tickets are long gone. Single-day general admission tickets remain.
