AHMEDABAD: In all, 67
child labourers in
Ahmedabad city and one in Bavla were rescued from various business establishments in two years. This was stated by the state government in the reply to a question by Sanand MLA Karamsinh Patel.
The government said that in 2013, the labour department rescued 48 children and in 2014 it rescued 19 children. Cases were registered against 29 owners in 2013 and 16 in 2014.
The government admitted that several children work at tea stalls but their number is not clear. The assembly was told that whenever officials raid tea stall, these children identify themselves as relatives of the owners and hence no action was taken.
