KANPUR: Two farmers allegedly committed suicide in the region on Tuesday after their crop was destroyed by the recent untimely rain.
Dhaniram (45) allegedly committed suicide in the wee hours of Tuesday by hanging himself in fields in Barnahal village of Mainpuri district. Destruction of potato crop by unseasonal rain and hailstorm had left him depressed, said the police.
“His body was found hanging from a tree in a field,” police said.

In the second incident, 50-year-old Hardayal of Kulpahar Bharwara village in Mahoba district allegedly hanged himself to death following damage to his pulses crop, police claimed.
The body was found hanging from a tree in the fields where he had sown pulses, police said.
According to family members, Hardayal had taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh from bank and local money-lenders and was reeling under acute depression following damage to crop of pulses on his 40 bighas. He was rushed to hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, villagers of both Barnahal in Mainpuri and of Kulpahar Bharwara in Mahoba district claimed that no survey team or relief work had reached them yet.
