Brother, can you spare a dollar for LCD panel makers?

Sharp's touch-panel LCD is so sensitive that a user can operate it while wearing gloves.

TOKYO -- To hedge against falling prices of liquid crystal displays for smartphones, makers are trying to add value by including touch-sensitive panels and increasing the resolution. But it is uncertain whether their efforts will improve profitability.

     The smartphone market has been exploding around the world, largely thanks to Chinese smartphone makers drastically driving down prices.
