Free RAR to ZIP Converter switches your file's format quickly, but it doesn't do itself any favors with its layout. In addition to looking and feeling incredibly dated, it's bogged down with add-on programs. However, if you can avoid those, it does its job flawlessly.
This program only converts RAR archives to ZIP files, so don't expect to turn them back if you need to. When you're trying to install the program, it sends four different toolbars and add-on programs at you. If you don't opt out, these programs can take over your browser, change your homepage, and add obnoxious toolbars, so be careful. The program, itself, looks very blocky and dated, kind of like it was made for Windows XP and never updated. That helps it move quickly, though, as conversions never took more than a minute during testing -- even conversions of larger files. You can even increase the level of compression on your files to save more space on your hard drive. Even when you up the compression to "Best," Free RAR to ZIP Converter still doesn't take very long to finish.
Free RAR to ZIP Converter isn't much to look at and its installation is loaded with traps, but it does a perfectly fine job with your files at the end of the day. If you know how to dodge add-on programs and don't care about how a program looks, you won't find many better performers when it comes to switching compression styles. This converter is impressively quick and powerful where it matters most.
