Hindustan Petroleum : URJA SANGAM-2015 - Shaping Indias Energy Security - IOCL Barauni Refinery

Energy security is the backbone of key government initiatives like affordable and reliable energy even for the poorest person, Power for All by 2019 and Make in India push for manufacturing sector. More energy resources thus are required to fulfill these objectives that will drive the needs of growing economy and surging nation.

To meet this purpose , the first international energy summit, "Urja Sangam 2015 : Shaping India's Energy Security," has been organised under the aegis of the Petroleum & Natural Gas Ministry on 27th March, 2015 at New Delhi. This summit envisages bringing together all the state-owned companies in the energy sector for better synergy and a unified energy vision.

The summit aims to create long-term business opportunities by drawing a road map to firm-up the country's energy security, integration of downstream, midstream and up-stream segments besides firming up cooperation agreements with key global players.

IndianOil's Barauni Refinery

IndianOil country's leading Fortune 500 company accounts for about 50% of petroleum market share; 11,163 km of pipelines network and controls 10 out of India's 22 refineries with a total group refining capacity of 65.7 million metric tonne per year. 50 years ago, IndianOil's Barauni Refinery was established in the midway of its feeding zone, Assam, and catering zone, Northern and North Central India. Its location in Barauni also gave an impetus to industrialization to the primarily agrarian land of Bihar. .

Under new-age technologies, Barauni Refinery produces green fuels in accordance with the international standards and environmental norms. On 18th January 2015, as part of Barauni Refinery's golden jubilee celebrations, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan , Minister of State (Independent Charge) , MOP&NG announced the refinery's capacity expansion by three million tones. This will enhance the refinery's crude processing capacity to nine million metric tonnes per annum in the next five to six years.
