The district panchayat has allocated Rs.1.5 crore for distributing scooters with side wheel attachment to physically challenged persons before the end of this fiscal. District panchayat president S. Jayamohan said the scooters would be distributed within the next six days. He said medical camps at grama panchayat and block panchayat levels to select the beneficiaries were completed on Tuesday. More than 300 physically challenged persons took part. People from the general and scheduled categories will benefit. The project would be expanded next fiscal.
