“Game of Thrones” debuted its fifth season at San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House Monday night in front of 3,000 guests, 24 cast members and a host of successful Silicon Valley nerds — including Twitter’s Biz Stone, Instagram’s Mike Krieger, Zynga’s Mark Pincus, Craigslist’s Craig Newmark and cloud-computing whiz Marc Benioff.
HBO boss Richard Plepler introduced the screening.
Creator George R. R. Martin recalled once meeting a rabid fan who “wanted to cut off a lock of my beard . . . I do a lot of things for my fans, but I’m not doing that!”
But then, “He snuck up behind me with a pair of scissors to try and get some of my hair.”
The show’s back on HBO April 12.
