Foley hoping Six Nations feelgood factor can bolster Munster

Foley said that he has not had discussions with Paul O’Connell about whether the Ireland captain will continue playing international rugby beyond the World Cup.

Munster coach Anthony Foley says he has no issue with Leighton Hodges taking charge of their Pro12 clash against Connacht on Saturday.

Connacht coach Pat Lam was fined for heavy criticism of the Welsh official following the Westerners' defeat in Cardiff.

Foley said: "That's something for Pat and Leighton and the Celtic League board to worry about and not for me to worry about. I trust the referee will go over and do a good job.

"I've worked with Leighton since my B&I Cup days so he's been a very good and fair referee and hopefully he's going to have a good game at the weekend."

Foley said that he has not had discussions with Paul O'Connell about whether the Ireland captain will continue playing international rugby beyond the World Cup.

Foley said he was just delighted that O'Connell has signed up with Munster until the summer of 2016 but doesn't know whether this has been his final Six Nations.

"He gets asked that quite a lot but I haven't even talked to him about it.

"I know he's contracted up to the end of next season, so that's the way I view it.

"I think for the whole country, everybody who is Irish has a massive amount of pride with what happened at the weekend both with the ladies and the men's teams.

"To win two championships like that within a day of each other is something that hasn't happened before so it is something that everybody involved in rugby is quite proud of."

Foley is hoping that the feel-good factor will have an impact on his Munster side, who resume their Pro12 campaign against Connacht.

But they will be without lock Donnacha Ryan whose return from a foot injury which sidelined him for a year has been interrupted by a head injury picked up in an 'A' game against Ulster.

The Ireland contingent, other than the trio who started in Murrayfield, were back in training in Limerick yesterday but Foley won't make a call until tomorrow who will play.

He said that hooker Mike Sherry was continuing to make progress, while Tyler Bleyendaal, the former Canterbury and Crusaders out-half/centre whose signing was announced last May on a three-year deal, is back in full training after undergoing surgery on a neck injury last autumn and could feature before the end of the season.
