Education standards to be improved: Naeem

JAMMU, Mar 24: Terming education as the most powerful medium to create an enlightened, progressive and a peaceful society, the Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, today said that the present Government has flagged this sector as its top most priority.
The Minister along with Minister of State for Education and Information, Priya Sethi reviewed the progress achieved under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) at a high level meeting here.
Commissioner Secretary Education, Shaleen Kabra, Mission Director SSA, Ramesh Kumar, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Yasha Mudgal, Secretary, Board of School Education (BOSE), Director School Education Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, Director School Education, Kashmir, Showkat Ahmed Beig, Additional Secretary Education, F. A. Dar were also present in the meeting.
The Minister said that in order to further enhance the standards of education, the education system is being rationalized, which is imperative for brighter future of the students. He said to achieve 100% literacy in the State, the Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) have to play a pivotal role in increasing the enrolment of children in schools in their locality.
Mr. Akhtar said that 20 KGBVs will be constructed in the State during this year for which Union Government has provided Rs. 90 lakh for each KGBV.
The Minister said four schools; two each in Jammu and Kashmir will be developed as Model Schools. He said in the first phase Ranbir Singh School and Higher Secondary School Sunjwan in Jammu and Girls Higher Secondary School Amirakadal and MP Higher Secondary School in Kashmir will be provided modern equipments during this year.
The Minister asked the officers to launch an awareness campaign all over the State highlighting the major schemes under implementation through SSA.
Underscoring the importance of education in mental, moral and physical development of the children, the Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi impressed upon the teaching fraternity to teach the students with devotion and social commitment. “Each word taught by them to children embeds life-long, far reaching and indelible impression and impact on their clean mind”, she asserted.
The District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal, who has served as Mission Director SSA earlier, as an expert gave a detailed resume through Power Point Presentations about the ‘Concerns and Solutions in education sector’ particularly the functioning and implementation of SSA in the State. She suggested some measures for streamlining the system.
