Sahana Kumari, Olympian and national record-holder in high jump, will attend a felicitation function for sports and cultural talents of Mangalore University on its campus on March 25.
Prize winners of inter-university sports and cultural competitions and inter-collegiate sports championships for 2014-15 will be felicitated at Mangala auditorium at 10 a.m.
Addressing presspersons here recently, Vice-Chancellor K. Byrappa said sportspersons of the university had bagged 30 medals in inter-university sports competitions during 2014-15. This impressive performance included 10 gold, 11 silver and nine bronze medals.
The university bagged bronze in the All India Inter-University Men’s Cross Country Race for the first time in the history of the university. Women’s kho kho team bagged bronze medal in the All India Inter-University Tournament and the same team bagged third prize in the South Zone Inter-University Tournament. In the All-India Inter-University Athletic Championship, the university bagged five gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
The women’s kabaddi team bagged bronze in the south zone inter-university meet.
Atmashree and Dhanushree bagged silver and bronze, respectively, in the all-India Inter-University Wrestling Competition.
Cultural events
At the national-level ‘yuvajanotsava’ (youth festival), the university bagged the first prize in skit; second prize in one-act play; and third prize in folk dance and mimicry, respectively.
In the south zone ‘yuvajanotsava’, the university won first prize in one-act play; second prizes in folk dance, skit, mimicry and clay modelling competitions; and the third prize in mime competition.
He said that prizes of overall championship in inter-collegiate competitions of the university would also be distributed on the same day.
