Probe on into police officers’ phone conversation

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said here on Friday that the recording and release of a phone conversation by suspended police officer Jacob Job had with a former Director General of Police was an act of gross indiscipline.

The ADGP (Intelligence) was examining the matter and action would be taken on the basis of his report. (Mr. Job was suspended in connection with improprieties in the investigation of case against businessman Muhammed Nisham, who was accused of murdering a security guard in Thrissur.)

Asked about aspersions cast on Director General of Police P K.S. Balasubramanian in the conversation, the Minister reiterated that the government had no doubts about the State Police Chief’s integrity.

Mr. Chennithala said that 22,054 persons had been apprehended during the past month under ‘Operation Sureksha’ and the second phase of the drive will be launched soon.
